CompTIA SecAI+ (exam code CY0-001) is CompTIA's certification for securing AI systems and using AI in security work. The exam has a maximum of 60 questions in 60 minutes, a passing score of 600 on a 100 to 900 scale, and a US voucher price of $298. It launched on February 17, 2026, and is aimed at people who already have a few years of hands-on security experience. This guide covers the format, the four domains, the cost and who it is for.

SecAI+ is new, and some third-party sites still show placeholder details from before launch (such as 85 questions or a 165-minute exam). The figures here come from the official SecAI+ page on comptia.org, checked on October 9, 2026. Confirm them there before you book.

One minute per question is tight, especially with performance-based items in the mix. Plan to read each scenario once, decide, and flag anything that needs a second look rather than stalling on it.

The four SecAI+ domains

The exam objectives split into four domains, weighted as follows:

DomainWeight
1.0 Basic AI Concepts Related to Cybersecurity17%
2.0 Securing AI Systems40%
3.0 AI-assisted Security24%
4.0 AI Governance, Risk, and Compliance19%

1.0 Basic AI Concepts Related to Cybersecurity (17%)

  • 1.1 Compare and contrast various AI types and techniques used in cybersecurity.
  • 1.2 Explain the importance of data security in relation to AI.
  • 1.3 Explain the importance of security throughout the life cycle of AI.

2.0 Securing AI Systems (40%)

  • 2.1 Given a scenario, use AI threat-modeling resources.
  • 2.2 Given a set of requirements, implement security controls for AI systems.
  • 2.3 Given a scenario, implement appropriate access controls for AI systems.
  • 2.4 Given a scenario, implement data security controls for AI systems.
  • 2.5 Given a scenario, implement monitoring and auditing for AI systems.
  • 2.6 Given a scenario, analyze the evidence of an attack and suggest compensating controls for AI systems.

3.0 AI-assisted Security (24%)

  • 3.1 Given a scenario, use AI-enabled tools to facilitate security tasks.
  • 3.2 Explain how AI enables or enhances attack vectors.
  • 3.3 Given a scenario, use AI to automate security tasks.

4.0 AI Governance, Risk, and Compliance (19%)

  • 4.1 Explain organizational governance structures that support AI.
  • 4.2 Explain risks associated with AI.
  • 4.3 Summarize the impact of compliance on business use and development of AI.

Securing AI Systems is 40% of the exam on its own, and most of its objectives start with "given a scenario". Expect applied questions: choosing access controls for a model, protecting training data, spotting the evidence of an attack on an AI system and picking a compensating control. Memorising terms will not be enough for that domain.

Who SecAI+ is for

CompTIA describes SecAI+ as an expansion certification: it builds on an existing security foundation rather than replacing one. It recommends Security+, CySA+, PenTest+ or equivalent knowledge first. The job roles CompTIA lists include security analyst, SOC analyst, cloud engineer, penetration tester or security consultant, DevSecOps engineer, data scientist or ML engineer, and risk and compliance officer.

  • Good fit: you already work in security (or hold Security+) and your organisation is adopting AI tools, building models or writing AI policy.
  • Start elsewhere: if you are new to IT or security, Security+ is the better first step. See our Security+ vs Network+ vs A+ guide for where to begin.

How much SecAI+ costs

The US exam voucher is $298, and the Voucher Plus Retake Assurance bundle is $332. That makes SecAI+ one of the cheaper CompTIA exams. Like all CompTIA exams, each retake costs the full price unless you bought the retake bundle. The certification renews on a three-year continuing education cycle with a $75 fee per cycle. Compare it with every other exam in our CompTIA exam cost hub.

How to prepare for SecAI+

  1. Download the official objectives from the SecAI+ page and use them as your checklist. Everything on the exam maps to an objective above.
  2. Spend your time where the weight is. Securing AI Systems (40%) and AI-assisted Security (24%) are nearly two thirds of the exam.
  3. Refresh core security first. SecAI+ assumes you already know access control, data protection, monitoring and incident response; it applies them to AI systems. The Security+ SY0-701 study guide and Security+ cheat sheet are a quick refresher.
  4. Practise under the clock. With 60 questions in 60 minutes, pacing matters as much as knowledge.

You can start with the free questions in our SecAI+ CY0-001 practice test: 40 questions mapped to the domains above, each with an explanation, and no credit card required.
